The Mini-Skirt's Retirement

Michael Kors Fall 2014

I've been several months working on this article. I started in March, but other ideas interjected on the way. It's possible you've already read more things about this; that's the disadvantage of this delay. But the advantage is that now I have more arguments which I base on.
The issue is that it seems that mini-skirt has taken a leave of absence or, going straight, the retirement. Why am I saying this? Haven't you realized that the piece that was so revolutionary during the 60's has been decreasing its presence at the last fashion weeks? Answer is yes.
I do not know if we have to blame Rihanna, Beyonce or reggaeton about this overexposure, but I believe that mini-skirt has taken a long break. Maybe we have to thank Phoebe Philo for this, who's been at the front of the French maison Céline since 2008, where the skirt goes beyond the knee.
Midi skirts have been with us for a while. Even petite women like me have learnt how to wear them. At the beginning we only dare with high heels, but now we don't care and we pair them with Stan Smith sneakers (a Phoebe Philo's personal must-have). And now, wherever we look at, it's very difficult to not succumb to temptation of acquiring one.
Show your legs out is not cool any more. At Man Repeller they discussed it some days ago, when talking about the retirement of shorts or hot pants though summer high temperatures are screaming for that.
Despite 60's mod trend comes quite strong for this coming fall, the mini-thing does not go too far. Furthermore, Céline, Stella McCartney, Chloé or Michael Kors will keep reminding us how comfy knee-length, or even longer, skirts are. Even brands like Balmain or Anthony Vaccarello have decided to participate in this thing of covering your legs, as they mentioned at Man Repeller.
On the other hand, Suzy Menkes for Vogue has also made us think about this matter. After watching Spring 2015 collections at Altaroma, she sentenced that Berlusconi era is over. The most sexy side in fashion (especially Italian fashion) has relaid the baton to more elegant and fine collections. Will we get that tanning à la Berlusconi goes on retirement as well?
